UNION COUNTY, AR - An inmate in prison for failure to register as a sex offender was allegedly strangled to death late Friday night.

According to reports, inmate Ronald Holland, 44, stopped a guard around 1:00 am on December 8 to report that he'd strangled his cell mate with a bed sheet. Holland reportedly told the guard that he'd strangled his cell mate, identified as Matthew Schiele, 22, around 11:00 pm Friday night and covered his body with a sheet.

Schiele was in prison serving a 48-month sentence for failure to register as a sex offender, while Holland was serving out a capital murder life sentence without parole.

Arkansas State Police is investigating.

Amazing how little compassion folks have for this family. As Jesus said, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

I have to disagree with this nonsense that he was a "sex offender" if what his family says is true. How many of you out there had sex before you were of "age"? At 15, I was sexually active with my 15 year old girl friend. She was as willing as I was. Which one of us was the sex offender? I took my first wife's virginity when she was 17 and 1/2 years old; just a few months shy of being able to get married in the state of AZ. Her mother found out by going through her purse and finding a note from one of her girlfriends. She told me she could nail me for statuatory rape. But she knew it would cause a rift between her and her favorite daughter, who married me a week after she graduated from high school. No, we weren't with child. It's something we had planned on since before we had sex. I was 18, she was 17; how is that a sex offense? And again, I have to ask all of you; men and women - how many of you had sex in high school? Or were all of you little angels? There was a time in our country when it was not uncommon for "women" in their early teens to marry. What changed? Certainly not our moral climate! If anything, that has gone downhill since our country was founded. Poe married his cousin when she was 13. Not uncommon back then. In many states, a 16 year old "woman" can get married. If they are old enough to marry, then I'd say they are old enough to have sex also. I have to add though; the ages should be close to the same. Kind of creepy when you have a man or a woman that is much older having sex with a teenager. And there, we have a double standard. Seems if a male teacher has sex with female student, he goes to prison. But, if you turn the sexes around, the female teacher usually gets off with a slap on the wrist. If this young man was about the same age as the girl he "offended", and she lied about her age, then I don't consider him a sex offender. And we all know, teenage girls never lie, do they!

matthew did cut ties with the girl when he found her age.......he also had been employed by a local restaraunt prior to his arrest.......he was also on social security disability...and he was working to try to get his record clean so he could join the military....so please, before you judge, try to decide if you would like someone to condemn you without knowing your story......i realize some people will never have their opinions change, but unless you know the whole picture, then you have no right to condemn someone who has already paid the price and was trying to make things right

If a member of my family was trying to get some from a underaged person, I'd feel the same way. I have a few bad apples in my family tree that have resorted to crime as a lifestyle and I cant stand them as well as any other piece of trash that refuses to live hte lifestyle. If you cant get a job, be a productive member of society, kepp your thing in your pants around underage people or whatever, then I have nothing for you. There are those that have made mistakes, gone to jail and learned their lesson and done something positive with their lives. To those, I can tolerate. The ones that keep fouling up, I have no use for.

So, you say he was dating a girl that was underage and he didnt know about it, and when her parents found out, THEY pressed charges. I'm calling BS on this. If he was as fine as a young man as you say he is, I mean WAS, then he would have broken ties after learning she was under age. I'm laying odds that he knew what her age was and was going for it anyways. While I dont condone locking up murderers for the rest of their lives at our expense, but if you are then keep putting the sex offenders in with them.

To the family and friends of Matthew who knew him better then we, I apologize for judging. I do agree that the media twists things around or don't always give details. If Matthew got involoved with a young teenage girl that lied about her age then I do fee this is unfair. I admit that there are so many young teenage girls that have blossomed at early ages and they do lie about their age. When you think about it, kids can drive by 16. There are a lot of 16 yr old girls that look so much older and can be so deceptive. I am sorry for offending you and I will pray for your family.
