How right you are itsjustme! Jax would dry up and blow away without the military base. I thank the Lord often I don't live in the city limits. And you are so right about the slumlords also. I've been in some apartments that have electrical wiring from Edison's days. Not to mention the roaches and rats. No smoke or carbon monoxide detectors either. The owners have "connnections" in City Hall it seems, or maybe there is a little payola involved. Ever been to the "hood"? Houses falling apart; boarded up, trash everywhere; including that of the human nature. The town is a dump. When I worked at a local grocery store, we had customers you could smell before you could see them. And the tweekers, crackheads, hookers, et al; just plain disgusting. And the town is full of them. Before any Jax residents get their drawers in a wad; there are some good people here, plenty of them to be sure; but there is that one element that is here that I've spoken of. Some of them remind me of the T-shirt I saw online - What about the good things Hitler did?

For one, Jacksonville does not have a decent hotel that isnt a haven for hookers and drug heads. The city leaders are going at things totally backwards. Jacksonville will never be more than a slumlord infested rental hole. If it wasnt for the LRAFB, Jacksonville wouldnt exist.

I for one will be at the Air Show! I never miss it! Thanks LRAFB!

Read the last sentence in the story? Business owners wish Jax had more events to draw people. Wing Ding was a joke. Two choices for food; free wings ( yuck ) or $5 corndogs. Booths? Nothing but local's; banks, real estate agencies, insurance companies, the local hospital ( when they changed their name to North Metro, I jokingly asked the nurses at the booth - "You can change your name, can you change your reputation?" ), and in election years, local politicians. Nothing like Cabotfest whatsoever. Plenty to do at Cabotfest; a lot of vendors ( something Jax was lacking in at Wing Ding ), and a lot more to see and do. Seems Jax is stuck in the last century. We need new leaders here! They could learn a thing or two by going to Cabotfest and checking it out.
