It took a jury in Saline County less than 20 minutes to convict former Alexander police officer Jeffrey Garcia of rape and sexual assualt involving three children, ages 11,12 and 14.
"Anytime you try a case like this, its difficult no matter how it turns out. I am disappointed. I worked hard, I believe my client," says defense attorney, Steve Smith.
The jury didn't believe him and sentenced Garcia to 100 years behind bars, two 40 year sentences for rape and a 20 year sentence for 2nd degree sexual assault. Prosecutors say he won't be eligible for parole for at least 70 years.
"I'm very satisfied that Mr. Garcia will never be out to hurt any other children, he should die in prison," says Saline County Prosecuting Attorney, Ken Casady.
The defense plans to file an appeal.
