It took a jury in Saline County less than 20 minutes to convict former Alexander police officer Jeffrey Garcia of rape and sexual assualt involving three children, ages 11,12 and 14.

"Anytime you try a case like this, its difficult no matter how it turns out. I am disappointed. I worked hard, I believe my client," says defense attorney, Steve Smith.

The jury didn't believe him and sentenced Garcia to 100 years behind bars, two 40 year sentences for rape and a 20 year sentence for 2nd degree sexual assault. Prosecutors say he won't be eligible for parole for at least 70 years.

"I'm very satisfied that Mr. Garcia will never be out to hurt any other children, he should die in prison," says Saline County Prosecuting Attorney, Ken Casady.

The defense plans to file an appeal.

Wow, that's some interesting spelling going on there, cbradford! And, just because he appears to be the type to not do this, doesn't mean he didn't. So many of these idiots don't appear to be the type and those are the scary ones! Good for the jury!!!!!!!

cbradford...you might want to consider using spell check before you post. As for this officer, I never would have believed it myself, but the jury obviously did. The prosecuting attorney never would have moved forward without solid proof and from what I've read these children were extremely graphic in their descriptions of what happened. Sad...

i agree with proudmom0914....something fishy with this story...beinging a survior myself this is something that a child can hide for long periods of time..there is signs a child shows that something isn't right...

The whole story is he was found guilty. Murderers do get that kind of time and more, so do druggies. Being he swore to protect I think he got off light. I trust cops and he used that trust in a sick way.

Ok, I would just like to say Im shocked!! Murders dont get that kind of sentence!! We can only hope those children are being truthful.
