LITTLE ROCK, AR-- 12 people of Pulaski County will now decide the fate of Steven Russell Junior. Russell is on trial for capital murder.
Prosecutors say Russell shot his girlfriend in cold-blooded murder back in November 2009, at a North Little Rock apartment complex.
Today, the prosecution told the court Russell killed Owens because she wanted to leave him after an abusive relationship. Attorneys say Russell shot Owens four times. Three bullets went to her head and the remaining shot to her neck.
But defense attorneys say Russell suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He went to Iraq in 2003 and lawyers say the terrifying scenes of war led to his actions.
His attorneys say it is clear Russell suffers from a mental disease and his behaviors exemplify all the symptoms.
The jury will return to the Pulaski County Courthouse Friday morning at 9.
