Oil Spill Discussed at September Mayflower City Council Meeting

Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson and representatives from ExxonMobil invited to update the city as the 6 month anniversary of the spill approaches.
MAYFLOWER, AR -- Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson and a representative from ExxonMobil addressed a meeting of the Mayflower City Council Thursday night.

The September meeting comes just days before the six month anniversary of the spill.

The judge and the company were invited to update Mayflower citizens and city officials about the state of the recovery.

Dodson says most parts of the recovery have now moved from the "response" to the "long term remediation" phase.

Dodson expects three homes will have to be demolished to get at any remaining oil, but he could not say exactly where the company and the homeowners are in the negotiation process.

The failure on March 29 spilled an estimated 210,000 gallons of oil into the Northwoods Subdivision in Mayflower.

We will have more on the Mayflower oil spill and the state of the cleanup as the anniversary approaches.
