LITTLE ROCK, AR-- A Little Rock business is giving away free conceal carry classes to Central Arkansas educators. Managers at Rock City Lenders say it is their way of giving back, after the Connecticut school shooting.
"We feel like if a person is armed, then that empowers them and don't have to feel like a victim," said General Manager Mike Willingham.
The classes usually costs about $80. Managers say the response has been overwhelming. 50 people have signed up so far.
"Teachers go to the grocery store. They go to different places outside of school and are recognized. So they still need to protect themselves," said Willingham.
Even though teachers are not allowed to have guns on campuses right now, State Senator Jeremy Hutchinson will soon draft a measure to give teachers the opportunity to carry guns at school.
"I'm still in discussions with people. But I suspect by the end of next week, beginning of next year, I will file a bill," said Hutchinson.
