LR voters approve 1% sales tax increase

Voters in Little Rock, Carlisle, and White County went to the polls today to consider tax increases in a special election on Tuesday.
LITTLE ROCK, AR – Voters in Little Rock, Carlisle, and White County went to the polls today to consider tax increases in a special election on Tuesday.

In Little Rock, voters approved two sales tax increases 54% to 46%. The two increases, taken together, will raise the sales tax by 1%. The Vote Pulaski website reports that less than 20% of registered voters turned out to vote on the two measures. Breakdown by precinct was not available.

In Carlisle, the unofficial total has residents passing a 0.875% sales tax increase. Two other measures asking for a portion of the taxes to go to street improvements and the construction of a new law enforcement center passed as well.

In White County, voters considered a tax increase to build a highway bypass around Searcy. That measure failed 43% to 57%.
