LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Little Rock School board did not approve a measure Thursday night, allowing armed guards on each of its campuses. However, they did approve items to install magnetic doors and hiring additional unarmed security officers.

Security director Bobby Jones strongly recommended passing the armed guard measure, but the board did not.

"I don't want the public to perceive that this is a response to crises that are happening right now in our schools. We are having this because of Sandy Hook. It's appropriate now," said board member Greg Adams.

One board member advised parents to watch for signs of mental illness.

"Don't be in denial about your kids, get your children help. Don't wait until something bad happens and then you are like, 'You know he had that problem,' help them now," said board member Norma Jean Johnson.

I would much rather an armed/trained security guard shoot a crazy person than my child get shot. Who wouldn't???? Apparently the school board.

Unarmed security guard against a nut with a gun; who wins? Why is it OK for some schools to have armed guards, but not others?

School Board member Greg Adams does not care about the safety of elementary school age children. He even last night advocated having tasers. A taser does not stop a armed shooter. The Little Rock School District has armed police officers at the high school. Surveys returned from parents and school overwhelmly wanted armed security personnel. The board members who voted against this proposal should be recalled for being stupid. If something happens to a elementary child or staff the blood is on their hands.

METAL DETECTORS AND ARMED TEACHERS. I think that would be the least noticeable as "armed school"....I bet most teachers could handle it if given the proper training. Then you have your office personnel going in behind a shooter....METAL DETECTORS ALL OVER THE PLACE. We don't really want our WORLD to be armed, but it looks like it is becoming a necessity. When my daughter described armed guards at Burger King, etc and around their missionary compound in Honduras, I was shocked. OH WELL.
