LITTLE ROCK, AR - Yesterday, we reported that former Miami coach Randy Shannon had interviewed for the vacant Arkansas defensive coordinator position and had become the prime candidate. Our sources indicated the discussions went well and talks began on what it would take to hire him. However, money became an issue, which was to be expected as he still has head coaching aspirations. We were also told not to discount allegations made against Miami from a rogue booster that had happened under Shannon’s watch. An NCAA investigation could follow Shannon, which is something the school would want no part of.

So what’s next? FOX16 has been told not to discount promoting from within. Current defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell has been mentioned as a possibility. He’s well respected in the coaching community and has served in the capacity before at Nevada. Former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix has been mentioned as being in the mix, but we’re told as a possible position coach. It remains a fluid situation, as things could change. Stay tuned to FOX16 for the latest.
