What prevents a person from saying they were just dialing a number to place a call? As far as I know that isn't illegal. Seems like it would be hard to prove you were in the process of typing a txt vs. dialing a number.

itsjustme; I'll agree with you on all points made. But I also agree with wp on this one. Texting and driving does indeed kill people. I went to town today, and had some idiot coming towards me drift way over into my lane. If I'd been on the Harley, I may have been in trouble! But I was in the F-250, and my thoughts were this - come on a**hole, I'm ready to play chicken! No wp, not harsh at all!

It's at least an attempt at keeping the public safe from those texters who are so ignorant that they can't watch the road..I can't tell you how many times I've seen idiots driving wrecklessly while texting, swerving on the freeway, driving in the oncoming lane, sitting at a green light etc, it's so obvious that they're texting...makes me want to chase them down and drag them from my bumber! that may sound a little harsh but it really makes me mad when they put MY life at risk b/c they can't wait until they stop to send a damn text...Texting and driving is as bad as drunk driving, if not worse depending on how much you've drank.

How do you enforce this? How would you "catch" a person who is texting and driving? Can you see them yards away? Will cops need a warrant to access their phone to verify that a text was sent?

Hey Rep. Fielding. Why not make the penalties for sex offenders, especially those that commit the crime against children, any stronger? Why is no one on the hill fighting for that? Why arent you or any of your fellow lawmakers fighting to end this BS lawsuit over the lethal injection/execution process? Why arent ya'll fighting to make crime more punishable? You worry about texting and driving, which it is a problem, but lets fry the bigger fish as well. Do something for the victims of vicious crimes and the innocent voting public.
