Little Rock Police: Deaths of Couple in House Fire "Suspicious"

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The deaths of a Little Rock man and his wife in a house fire early today are being remain under investigation.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says the victims who died in their home at 405 Markwood Drive are identified as Donald Creer, 50, and Donna Creer, 57.

"They were just beautiful people," said long-time friend Alvetta Carson.

Friends remembered Donna for her many years on local radio and work with the Little Rock School District.

"She would help anyone," Carson said.

Donald was know for his singing voice.

"He sang for President Clinton when he was running for president," Carson said.

Fire crews were called to the couple's home at 3:11 a.m. and found the bodies inside the home after forcing their way in through a carport door. Both victims were pronounced dead at separate hospitals.

Friends said Donna had been diagnosed with cancer, but recently said she was getting better.

The LRPD says there were no visible signs of injury to the victims.

The bodies are at the State Crime Lab for autopsies to determine the cause of death.

Detectives are working to determine what happened inside the home. The incident report notes that a back sliding glass door was found to be unlocked.

The fire's cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.

Meanwhile, the Little Rock Fire Department is investigating a second deadly fire in the city.

It happened Tuesday night at 1915 South Park Street, just south of Wright Avenue, shortly before 10:00.

Police say a woman died in that fire while her 50-year-old son was able to escape.

The fire was reported to have been contained to the victim's room.

Police have not yet released the woman's name or information on the cause of that fire.
