Little Rock Principal Brings in Extra Police for Potential Gang Activity

Potential gang activity at a Little Rock High School has been cause for an increase in police presence.

After rumors circulated that there could be gang activity going in to Spring Break Thursday and Friday the principal of J.A. Fair High School requested the police presence.

Students say you couldn't miss it.

"When I pulled up this morning I seen like four or five of them," senior, Trayvon Peeples said explaining they usually only have one or two. "The school's been packed with them... more security guards too."

A team of Little Rock Police officers showed up on the campus Thursday morning.

"Yeah, there were a lot this morning," explained Peeples concerned mother who wanted to know why. "I was kinda wondering what was going on."

According to the Little Rock School District and Little Rock Police Department the principal asked police to bring out more officers to the campus.

Other students shared with us that they thought the school needed to do it.

LRSD reports concerns over potential gang activity or riots breaking out before Spring Break created the necessity.

"Like kids taking to Facebook saying what they're going to do," Peeples explained the rumors spread through social media but it never worried him. "I felt safe before. It's really not a difference to me."

He did say it's a sign that the school and principal is looking out for his safety.

"I think it's actually good because he cares for the student's sake and everything," Peeples remarked. "So if he wants more he has the right to just to make sure we're safe."

The district says it was only a precautionary measure taken but you can still expect them to be back Friday.
