Little Rock aggravated robbery leads to pursuit

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Officers from the Little Rock Police Department responded to a call about a suspected car jacking which later resulted in a high speed pursuit Thursday.

According to reports, police responded to a call regarding an aggravated robbery and car jacking at 3302 Lamar Street. When they arrived, officers spoke with the victim, 50-year-old Sid Cottrell of Little Rock, who told police that a woman he knows only as Vicky drove a Griffins Roofing truck in behind his residence and told him that she had stole the vehicle. Cottrell told police he told Vicky to get the vehicle away from his residence, at which time she and an unknown man left in the truck.

Cottrell told police that he later saw the truck parked in front of his residence, so he along with 37-year-old James Gossett walked up to the vehicle to get the phone number, so they could contact Griffins Roofing and tell them where the truck was located. While at the vehicle, two men - one armed with a black semi-automatic handgun - approached Gossett and Cottrell, informing them that they were detectives. The men asked for permission to search the truck, which Cottrell and Gossett said was not theirs. When 22-year-old Tyler Worley pulled up to the scene as the subjects were searching the truck, the suspects told him that they were looking for fugitives and ordered him to put his keys on the dashboard, get out of the car and sit on the curb.

Witnesses told police that as the suspects began to search Worley's Ford Focus, Gossett tried to call 911, and when the suspects noticed he was on his phone, they reportedly struck him in the neck, and in the confusion a gun went off. The suspects then fled the scene in the truck and the Ford Focus.

While investigating the incident, UAMS Police informed investigators that the truck was found abandoned in a parking lot in the 600 block of Cedar Street, and a man was seen hiding a large handgun in the bushes. Police responded and the truck was transported to the Crime Scene bay to be processed. Officers later located the stolen Ford Focus heading eastbound on Interstate 630.

After police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspect fled, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit into Grant County and north on Arch Street.

Deputies reportedly deployed spike strips in the 14200 block of Arch Street which stopped the car, and the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Wade Mount, fled the vehicle on foot and was later located in a wooded area, where he refused to submit to arrest. Mount was taken into custody and transported to the Detective Division. Mount was charged with three counts of Aggravated Robbery, three counts of Theft of Property, three counts of Criminal Impersonation, one count of Felony Fleeing, one count of Misdemeanor Fleeing, one count of Refusal to Submit to Arrest, one count of Reckless Driving, one count of Running a Stop Sign, one count of Driving on a Suspended License and was transported to the Pulaski County Jail.
