Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola is making recommendations for next year's budget cuts. Next years proposed budget includes $3.6 million in cuts. It cuts nearly 30 jobs from various city departments from top to bottom.

Kathy Wells with the Coalition of Greater Little Rock Neighborhoods says, "Give us more and better services. Address our problems.”   Wells is not happy with the mayor's proposed budget. It includes cutting 1.5 million dollars from the prevention and intervention and treatment programs for youth. "These are not programs you start and stop on a dime,” Wells said.

Mayor Mark Stodola says the city has no choice. "It means there are going to be some cuts across the board,” he said.  "It looks like there are 28 people that will be receiving notices about this reduction in force,” Stodola added.

It’s no easy decision he says, but he and City Manager Bruce Moore must sell the plan to the board of directors.

Director Doris Wright questions why the city must cut and outsource some programs. "I don't see why we have to vet it out or give it to community based programs when you have community centers that the citizens and taxpayers pay for sitting empty,” Wright said.

In the coming weeks they will review the proposal line by line.

"To the various projects that are very important to the city, that make this city what it is, we're all having to tighten our belts,” Stodola said.

Moore addressed the board saying, "I can not say city services won't be affected by these reductions because they will be.”  Director Erma Hendrix said she would be willing to give up her salary if it would help the city.

Though the proposal wouldn't eliminate fire staff it would cut $100,000 in supplies for the fire department. The plan also eliminates 6 neighborhood alert centers and cuts $10,000 from the travel budget for the board of directors.

The local television and paper medias used the Freedom of Information act to pull city employees salaries for the last several years. I was hoping to see them pubish those rates. Supposedly (from the rumor line) that they were trying to compare the salaries that of all the different employees from various LR departments are making including the mayor, city manager, directors etc........ Havent seen that yet and i wonder why they havent done anything yet with the information they pulled. I was curious to see what our fearless leaders where making and just how often they get a new piece pie $$$.

Sthrnrsh, WOW ! I didn't know that. Thats ridiculous. So at least now we have faces to blame for the loss of all those jobs. Why isn't the city making the right budget decisions ? The state over-spends more than any other state I have lived in. And it sucks to know the public put these people in office. How sad.

Hey did you all know that we are one of the only "major" cities that uses both a Mayor, Assissant mayor, city manager, and assistant manager? And did you guys know that the City manager is getting a riase of close to $20,000 dollars this year. The city board gets a raise as well and its a percentage based off of what the city manager gets. He is already making $150,000+. Get rid of the mayor or city manager and their assistants. And then you can save somebody else's job.....someone who needs that job.

While I'm sure that the mayor is sitting pretty in his position because his job is in no threat, but if he wants whats best for the state and its residents, he might want to stop and think of how he got to be mayor. False promises, lies, dishonesty. bet ya we know who isn't getting reelected next term. It would be nice to have a mayor that works for EVERYONE in the state, not just the big-wigs. And what about cutting some bonuses ? Especially yours Mr. Mayor !

Hmmm ?!?!? Good question. How about the mayors pay. didn't that used to be a volunteer position and the Mayor decided it shoud be a paid position. How about this scenario: Any of you remember the mid 80's through mid 90's in LR. The economy was poor then too. CRIME RATE WENT SKY HIGH AFTER BUDGET CUTS !!! Here we go again ! Get ready to avoid the Central High area, Mid Town and Barrow areas... You'll get shot. They always cut the poor areas first.

Sounds to me like the mayor is doing the right thing. Most Gov entities just raise taxes instead of performing the job their are elected and paid to do. Sounds to me that the City Gov did a poor job to start with by assuming that all was going to keep going as before with NO planning for contingnecies. The Director travel budget cut should be greater, they don't need to be staying in the Ritz on my dollar!

Is the Mayor going to take a pay cut? Bet not!!
