LITTLE ROCK, AR - A waiter says he's not guilty of raping a 7-year-old girl at a Little Rock restaurant. But that accused man was in jail on $1 million bond after appearing in court Monday. The manager at Casa Manana at 18321 Cantrell Road in Little Rock says he was as shocked as anyone at the accusations Friday. And he's determined to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Casa Manana restaurant manager Desideiro Juarez says the accused, 35-year-old Marco Antonio de la Rosa Gutierrez, doesn't work at that location any more.
He said, "I never thought something like that was going to happen here. As I said many times still to this day I do not understand completely what happened."
Little Rock Police arrested Guttierrez Friday and charged him with rape. A police report says while working at the restaurant Guttierrez lured a 7-year-old girl away from her family and into a bathroom. Police say he then put his hand down her pants. She told her mother who called police.
Juarez said, "I'm here a lot of times with my family. I have my daughter here and I can not allow those kinds of things to happen."
We went to Guiterrez' Little Rock home but no one answered.
Neighbor Elvie Arnold said, "I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't believe it because the guy seemed to be okay."
Now Juarez is worried people will get the wrong idea about the business. But he says it's a family establishment full of hardworking people.
He said, "We have tried so hard for a long period of time and just overnight everything we have tried to do is just going away."
But he's changed the hiring policy to include background checks for all employees.
The rape charge came after a doctor examined the girl at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Fox 16 contacted the girl's family but received no word back by Monday evening.
Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies say Gutierrez does have criminal history but had no details on it. They did say he is not a registered sex offender.
