Local Muslim students are saying Nidal Malik Hasan's shooting rampage at Ft. Hood was barbaric and hard to understand. Some students say violence like this gives all Muslims a bad name.
Friday, Muslim students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), were raising money for the hungry.
Abdullah Abu Nasrah, President of the Muslim Student Association, is also thinking about the mass shooting at Ft. Hood. "I was terribly upset about what happened yesterday. It puts a bad name on my religion." That's because the suspected shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan considers himself a devout Muslim.
All of the Muslim students tell FOX16 what happened yesterday at Ft. Hood is unacceptable and barbaric. "That's really not who we are. There are radicals in every religion," said Sana Mohsin.
"What's one Muslims opinion, everyone's going to think it's everybody else's opinion," said Abdullah.
The local Muslim community got another black eye back in June. Police say Abdul Hakim Muhammed, a Muslim convert, shot one soldier and killed another at the recruiting center in Little Rock. Making matters worse, a former colleague of Major Nidal Malik Hasan told FOX news that Hasan was happy about the shooting at the Army Recruiting Center in Little Rock and that Hasan told him Muslims should "stand up to the aggressor."
"It's really nothing to be happy about or proud of; it's a really shameful act, whether you’re a Muslim, Christian, or a Buddhist," said Sana.
These students say their prayers go out to the victims families and everyone involved in the Ft. Hood shooting.
