A Little Rock man tried to steal chicken and ribs from a grocery store by stuffing the meat down his pants.  But Food Giant security and employees weren't having it.  After a scuffle they stopped the suspect outside and police later arrested him.

Police are urging employees not to follow suspects outside because it could be dangerous.

Police say when Antonio Jordan visited the Food Giant on Main Street in Little Rock, he picked up a couple of slabs of ribs and family size packs of chicken. But employees say he didn't stop at the register to pay for it and didn't carry the $50 worth of meat out in a bag.

"He stole several packs of meat by concealing them in his clothing," says Sergeant Cassandra Davis.

He put the meat in his pants.  Employees and store security tried to stop Jordan in the store.  But he made it outside and the security guard told police Jordan fought him but he held on.

Even a female employee came outside of the Food Giant to try to help stop the suspect.  She ended up getting bruised up in the scuffle and police say while she was probably working off of emotion. They advise people to never follow a suspect out side of the store.

"You work at a store and you notice that someone has shoplifted don't try to chase them down outside of the store. You don't know if there's a partner or someone waiting on them or not," says Sgt. Davis.

Fortunately that didn't happen.  Police got to the scene and arrested Jordan. Although the store recovered the meat, it can't sell it.

Sergeant Davis says thieves are crafty if they want something bad enough they'll conceal it just about anywhere.

bothered12, they have been shop lifting food at that location since before 98' and they were stuffing it in their pants then too, one guy stuffed a twelve pack around his waist one can at a time. That's not so say the econmy and the job market are not in a sad state of afairs though, with unemployment end soon for thousands the welfare and food stamp lines are bound to fill up and some will surely become desperate, that might be this guys case, doubt anyone asks or cares.

It is shoplifting as soon as you conceal it. If it wasn't ribs he was stealing I might have some sympathy.

It's really bad when American citizens have been reduced to stealing food. Washington DC in some ways are failing it's citizens. When illegal immigrants can come to this country and receive FREE healthcare, FREE education for their kids, EMPLOYMENT and food stamps, what are you saying to the citizens? There are no FREE resources for Americans in foreign countries. America has got to do a better job with taking care of it's legalized citizens in a fair and humane way.

He should have never left the store. Once he knew he was spotted, he should have stop in his tracks.(still in the store) and remove the meat from his pance. The store owner or employees would have nothing on him. FYI it's not shoplifting if you don't leave the store. And if you bring in a bag with you to shoplift you will be charged with burglery. A fellony.. I feel for people who have to steel food. These are trying times.I hope his kids ate tonight.

FYI: People steal these meat items all the time and sell them on the street corner or to one of street vendors that grill on vacant parking lots on asher avenue. They sell this stuff for 25 cents on the dollar and take the proceeds and buy crack cocaine. A truly poor person that is hungry and has resorted to shoplifting will steal RTE (ready to eat) food. I hate to be the messenger and tell everyone that there is a crack problem in Little Rock. And in the end the taxpayer pays.

sparrowhawk60 - I feel for you but since you apparently have a computer and internet I guess life isn't as bad as you are trying to make it sound for yourself...

So what he was stealing food??? As more people go hungry this is going to happen. Everyone don't have cars anymore as they lost their jobs. Soup kitchens? Let mer give a few facts 1] they are only open certain days and hours 2]most are too far away for people to get to.3] they are few and far in between. 4]most food pantry's are usually no more than several hours wait for rice and beans. 5]Some of us have worked all our lives and found out it was for nothing but to pay for other countries to eat. 6]We are disabled can't get food stamps as our ss is too high for it. We can pay our bills[taxed] medicenes [if we are lucky after all the gap insurances]taxed too, Can't even have a paid for anything over $4000. $2000 for food stamps, property taxes,I'm so glad that criminals get everything for free and we can bail out Greece. Where are the jobs? Better not have a dependable car. And we don't even want to think about utility bills. Glad all of you don't have such problems that you can stand in judgement of why others are in the situations they are. Doing so will take you to where we are one day. Sure hope some of you aren't the ones calling themselves 'christians'. We are our brother's keepers and we should start right here in our country with whomever lives next door. Judge not lest you be judged. The economy is not my fault it's Washington D.C,'s and what we keep letting them do.
