On Sunday, officers responded to a robbery of an individual at the U.S. Bank located at 6000 Baseline Road.  When they arrived, the victim, Maurice Smith, told officers he was using the ATM when he noticed a 2000 Ford Taurus pull into the parking lot.

Smith then told officers he went back to using the ATM when a man got between him and the ATM.  The man pointed a gun at Smith and told him to give him his money.

Smith said he immediately pushed the handgun away from his face and accelerated to get away from the suspect, and as he began to drive away from the ATM, a shot rang out going through the passenger's side window.

As he was waiting on the officers to arrive, he checked around the inside of his vehicle for damage and located a pistol in his back seat area.

It appeared that as Smith accelerated, the door jam struck the arm of the first suspect, dislodging the weapon from his hand causing it to land in the backseat.

If you have any information you are asked to call the local authorities.

I'm with rbudj, is anybody surprised ? How many times does this kind of thing happen in S.W. ? Only about 3 times a day. How is this one going to be any different ? And as far as another gun being off the street, 1 down 4,999 to go. What is really sad is that as we speak that same thug probably already got a replacement. And YES, it is that easy !

Hurray! That's one more gun off the street. You read into the story something that was not stated. The victim didn't RUN TO his vehicle, he was already in it, sitting at the ATM. The robber walked up between the vehicle and the wall. I think Mr. Smith reacted well by escaping the danger, and not bowing to intimidation. I am glad the victim was not injured, but this shows how reckless and brazen are these armed thugs. When out in public, make yourself alert, aware and ready for action at all times.

I bet further search into this will show the gun tied to robberies, homicides or other mischief. A gun pointed to your face, which you have the time to push away and run to your vehicle. Then driving away it's in the vehicle and goes off with no injury. Sounds extremely questionnable to me.
