The City of Maumelle is warning residents to be cautious of door to door solicitors who don’t have proper permits and may be looking to rob you.
The Maumelle Police Department is receiving reports of suspicious salesmen knocking on doors in their neighborhood.
Police say solicitors must have a permit with the city to go door to door selling anything. If they don’t, that is a clear warning to people to close the door and call police.
The State of Arkansas already has standards in place for solicitors but the City of Maumelle has its own permits that are required. Those permits can be obtained from the City Clerks office. Solicitors must go through a background check and carry identification on them while selling door to door. If not, they could land in jail.
Maumelle Police Chief Sam Williams says sometimes these people posing as solicitors have criminal backgrounds and even warrants out for their arrest.
Chief Williams says the fine for illegally soliciting is $150. If you suspect someone is soliciting in your neighbor is suspicious, ask them for identification and call police immediately.
