Meth bust made near school

A bust of a suspected meth lab in Benton Monday morning yielded 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine, which police says has a street value of $45,000.

BENTON, AR – A bust of a suspected meth lab in Benton Monday morning yielded 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine, which police says has a street value of $45,000.

Police say a search of a home located at 206 N. 4th Street found “numerous items and chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine.” This suspected meth lab is just down the street from Benton High School, less than 1,000 feet away.

Arrested in the search were 31-year-old Jarrod Holmes, 28-year-old Crystal Layton, and 25-year-old Jessica Von Kanel.

Holmes and Layton were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Use of Another Person’s Property to Facilitate a Crime, Maintaining a Drug Premises, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Use of Communication Device to Facilitate a Crime, and an Enhanced Penalty for Manufacturing Within a 1000’ proximity to certain facilities. Von Kanel was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be made against the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the Benton Police at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS.
