While most of the state is drying out, people in Woodruff County are still dealing with flooding after last week’s rain. And this is not the end. They could experience even more flooding as the White River continues to rise.
When the rain stopped and the sun started shining, Doris Roberts thought she and her family had dodged the flooding, but then water started rising very quickly around her home. "It started coming over the bank day before yesterday and it just steadily got worse and worse," says Roberts.
It's expected to get even worse. Roberts lives near the White River in Woodruff County. It's already about 9 feet over flood stage and predicted to rise even more by Wednesday.
"This is the bank and the water is supposed to be way down there," says Roberts.
She and her husband are building a house, they thought they were being smart about this construction project but are second guessing themselves. "We have it up on iron but still with the current as strong as it is you never know."
Roberts has experienced a flood before. It was devastating but she hopes luck is on her side this time around.
The National Weather Service in North Little Rock says the White River will continue rising through the end of the week. The Ouachita River rose above major flood stage of 83 feet Monday and is forecast to rise above 85 feet by Friday and keep rising into the weekend.
