There is more trouble for the Conway County woman charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the deaths of her sons. Police arrested Amber Turley August 7th. Investigators say Turley had been drinking and smoking marijuana the day she drove into Brewer Lake and her three sons drowned. Now the Department of Human Services, DHS, is investigating Turley for neglect.
"She was a mother that took three little boys in a vehicle and drove in the state of mind she was in with the alcohol and the drugs in her system," says Vurlon Egger.
Egger also says Turley should have to pay for her actions. Turley's three little boys drowned when she drove into Brewer Lake. Police say Turley admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana earlier that day. Egger, the boys' great aunt, felt relieved when police arrested Turley and now she's looking forward to the outcome of a DHS investigation of neglect against her.
"When autopsies come back and screens come back and more information comes to light as part of the criminal case at that point they're compelled to call it into the child abuse hot line," says Julie Munsell with the Department of Human Services.
Munsell says they are just a couple of days into a 30 day investigation, if the results in a finding are true on the neglect allegation, Turley's name will be placed on a child abuse registry. "If they want to work in childcare or around children and that organization checks the registry it could prohibit them from getting that job."
Egger says, "I don't think she needs to be working around children with the choice she made with her own."
Egger adds nothing can bring Alex, Aaron and Anthony back but she wants to see justice done for them so no other child gets hurt.
