Mother of Hit-And-Run Victim Speaks About Arrest in Case

A mother grieving the loss of her three-year-old son after he was killed by a hit-and-run driver in March spoke out Saturday, one day after there was an arrest made in the case.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A mother grieving the loss of her three-year-old son after he was killed by a hit-and-run driver in March spoke out Saturday, one day after there was an arrest made in the case.

27-year-old Kyisha Durham turned herself in to Sherwood Police on Friday.

Adding to the pain for Jaylen Diggs' family is the fact that Durham, the woman accused of hitting him and then driving off, is someone the family knows well.

"She cried with us," Ruiz said of Durham.

Diggs died March 13th -- two days after being hit by an SUV in the parking lot of a Sherwood apartment complex.

"I just wish he was here," said Diggs' mother Imunique Ruiz.

Ruiz had suspected Durham, a former friend of the family, after police said the vehicle involved was an SUV that fit the description of one she drove.

But until now an arrest hadn't been made.

Ruiz says Jaylen was going outside to play when he was hit.

"He would have been here today if she would have stopped," she said.

Ruiz says the arrest is providing some relief to a family still struggling to deal with the loss of a child.  She says what the family wants now is justice.

Durham is being charged with Negligent Homicide and Failure to Render Aid.  After turning herself in Friday, she was released on $5,000 bond.
