NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - We may not see any effects of Issac for another 48 hours in Arkansas but when it arrives it could bring flooding to many areas and possible tornadoes. But bad weather often means business for a North Little Rock company specializing in keeping you warned ahead of the storm.
If this looks like a tornado siren on a trailer, well, that's exactly how David Miller at Safety Com Inc shows off the latest in warning technology.
"Sirens still have a very valuable role in being that immediate get someone's attention to tune into some other kind of outlet," Miller says.
His North Little Rock based company he founded in 1997 is responsible for the 56 sirens in Little Rock as well as locations in Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona.
In recent years many communities ditched sirens in place of less expensive phone notification systems, like code red. Miller says it's a mix.
"When you're having one of those horrible days in spring and people are going to get hurt it's whatever one that gets someone tuned in to take caution, take shelter," Miller says.
Hot Springs wants to see how the audible voice warning might work in the downtown areas in cases of flash flooding. But given possible breezier conditions picking up Wednesday ahead of Isaac, that test may not go off as planned.
