Monday night, during a North Little Rock City Council meeting that ran more than three hours, council members heard from city planners and an architect about a proposal to build apartments and townhouses by the Arkansas River.

The nearly 45 acre site runs along River Road near the River Trail. Mayor Pat Hays supports development only if the River Trail is protected.

The developers have offered to by the former quarry site from the City of North Little Rock for $1.2 million. That is below the $1.7 million appraised value. Developers would have to spend money supplying water, sewer and electricity to the site.

The architect explained nearly 500 units would be able to fit on the site without meeting maximum density limits. He also mentioned a marina in the proposal.

Mayor Hays plans to have a public hearing on the issue August 27. That is also the earliest the council could vote on whether to sell the land. Developers then would spend $100,000 doing a feasibility study on the site.

bat...yep, that land should be saved for casinos....unless they already have that figured in. I am sure it isn't a new plan.

Stupid NLR leaders yes, yes, yes sell now well below the what it is worth I don't know who they got the appraised value from it seems way to low for riverfront land.15 years ago NLR should have put a casino and hotel in there the rent, tax and all would have been 10 fold or more than 1.2 million these nuts want to give, but thats Hayes for you ,glad he will be gone.

NLR will screw this up as well. Remember the Bass Pro Shop ordeal? LR, if you have land along the river, you may want to get ready for offers from the group after NLR run them off.
