LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - State health officials say nearly 28,000 Arkansans got shots Thursday protecting them against seasonal flu as mass clinics for flu vaccines got under way around the state.

A news release from the state Health Department said 27,729 seasonal-flu shots were given at 36 of 38 clinics around Arkansas, along with 4,028 doses of a vaccine for swine flu, also known as the H1N1 strain. Reports from two clinics weren't available, according to Ann Wright, spokeswoman for the Health Department.

The swine flu vaccine is in shorter supply, and it is being limited to people at especially high risk for getting swine flu.

Wright said clinics in Ashley, Craighead, Independence, Lawrence and Woodruff counties ran out of the swine flu vaccine, and a mass clinic in Calhoun County lost power for a time during a severe storm and tornado warning.

More than 50 additional mass flu-shot clinics are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the agency said.
