LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansans — and others — will be able to track how the state spends money through a new website that began operation this weekend.
Salaries for most state employees went online at Transparency.Arkansas.gov on Sunday. Officials expect users to be able to track expenditures and revenue online by Friday and debt online this fall.
The website comes after a 2011 law required the state to set up an "online checkbook" so the public could see how much most agencies spend.
It will cover expenditures from all state agencies, except for institutions of higher education, which are on a different accounting system.
Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Darr was elected partly on the promise to set up the online checkbook. He says the site is very user-friendly.
