LITTLE ROCK, AR - A new Walmart opens Friday, October 26th to West Little Rock Shoppers, providing 300 jobs and savings to customers on wide selection of merchandise.

The grand opening of the Walmart store is making a comeback on Bowman Road. The grand opening is at 7:30 a.m. when the store will open to the general public.

The 151,000-square-foot store is located next door to Sam’s Club and is returning to the area after closing a few years ago when a Walmart Super Center opened on Shackleford Road. The Bowman store now has a full selection of groceries, clothing, home goods and a Lawn & Garden Center. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Customers are encouraged to come to the store grand-opening day to take advantage of a wide variety of events and promotions, including product samplings and giveaways from companies such as Yarnell’s Ice Cream, and character appearances by Twinkie the Kid and Chester Cheetah. Other activities include an FLW professional bass casting pool. Guests can test their fishing skills at the FLW Casting Pond where they can cast, pitch and flip their way to the top of the leaderboard and win great prizes such as FLW caps.

The grand-opening festivities will continue Saturday, Oct. 27, with steak and smoothie samples and a magician, among other activities. All events are family-friendly, free and open to the public.

I've quit a few jobs when I was younger, afraid to now...at our age, you just can't go get another job...as a truck driver you can job jump but health conditions pretty much limit my choices anymore...had maybe 12-13 jobs since the mid 70s, any one of them from 1 week - 11 years...walmart ranks as the bottom 1 or 2, sorry if you can't see it the way I do...you just can't believe the way some things are done and handled there, we always say "if it has anything to do with common sense, its not the walmart way"...ok, I'm done whining...

I might also point out that you have to call in sick two days in a row to get paid for one day...call in sick one day-no sick pay...quit or get fired, your sick time means diddly squat...I have tons of sick time, it don't mean crap...get a job there Butch, then YOU will know the whole story...

how long has granny been there Butch?? they don't hire people now the way they used to...the people that started long ago have the better benefits than people starting these days..I work with a woman who makes around 18$ an hour and she does no more than a 8$ an hour person, except run her mouth... it used to be a good job-not any more...the LITTLE discount card will give you a discount on lighters but not milk(example)...I have worked at walmart for 5 years and it just keeps getting worse..I am a 55 year old man who used to drive trucks, a heart condition won't let me drive so I work at walmart...they have reduced all employees hours and continually make it difficult with the demands they put on you...in my department, we lost 2 young men to other outside jobs and they replaced them with one young girl who does not lift heavy items...it used to pay to stay, not anymore..I could go on and on...I won't believe for a second a store has 500 employees, granny needs to brush up on her guessing skills...other than that, good for granny...

It may sound bad the way you put it but Granny makes about 15 dollars an hr. to punch keys and gets 4 WKS. paid vacation a year. Starting out might be a little low but it pays to stay. Then there is the stock, 401, and the little discount card. If you want to tell a story tell it all. Or maybe you don't know the whole story. They also give up to 5 percent raises every year. More than the cost of living is for us retired people. Granny got more than that this year. There are around 500 employees at her store. Three shifts with all the people in the back you don't see. I wouldn't blame them if they shut the doors the way fools run them down. Wouldn't hurt us. We are set. Thank you WalMart.
