LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Report cards go out Friday for the Pulaski County Special School District. New this year, leaders are implementing a different grading method using numbers instead of letters.

Dr. Linda Remele says the change is part of a strategy implementing the common core state standards curriculum.

"This is a pilot this year with the standards based report card. We are very interested in our teachers feedback and our parent feedback," said Remele.

So far parents, like Shannon Sullivan, react with optimism.

"It's something different. But what the teachers have explained to me, it's going to be based on a slightly different curriculum. I'll just have to try it out and see how it goes," said Sullivan.

A 1 or 2 means a student is not meeting expectations, a 3 means he or she is doing well, and a four says a student is above grade level.

"But our expectation and what we want parents to realize is that a 3 means they are on track and ready for the next step," said Remele.

This is nonsense!!!!!!!!!! This whole "Commen Core" program that Obama is putting forth is nothing but failure. Another change that will be implimented in this Commen Core is removing textbooks and lectures from classes. Our children will have to learn via computers only. What's next, removing teachers as well? This grading system is BS!!!!!!!!!

Get unions out of schools, reward the good teachers and get rid of the bad. Unions suck the life blood out of everything they get involved with...

They are going from 5 letter grades ( 6 counting I ( Incomplete )) to 4 number grades. Dumbing down again? Making the tests easier to appease certain groups didn't work? What's next; everyone passes regardless of ability, intelligence, studying, and hard work? It stinks. And it's not fair to the one's that put some effort into it.
