No Injuries in Shots Fired Near Dunbar Middle School

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A man is in custody after police say he was firing multiple shots near Dunbar Middle School at 6:20 Wednesday evening.

Jon Smith, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a handgun on school grounds, resisting arrest and fleeing.

When officers arrived at the scene, school security advised them that a black male was in the field between the school and community center firing weapons into the air.

Police recovered about 12 shell casings and a 40 caliber handgun in the immediate area.  Smith attempted to hide gun in an unlocked vehicle that did not belong to him.

During the incident, a volleyball game was being played, but no one was injured.

Police suspect Smith was under the influence of a narcotic.
