One Dead Following Accident at Arkansas Nuclear One

Emergency workers are at Arkansas Nuclear One where an accident has happened involving heavy equipment in a turbine building, the reactor has not been damaged.
RUSSELLVILLE, AR- An accident being described as "significant" killed one person and injured three others early Sunday at Entergy's Arkansas Nuclear One facility in Russellville.

The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m.  The injured employees were rushed to a hospital.  The extent of their injuries is unknown.

According to Entergy, the accident happened when a generator stator fell as it was being moved out of the turbine building. 

Both plants are in a stable shutdown condition and there is no danger to the public, according to Entergy.  The Arkansas Department of Health also confirms there's no immediate threat to the public.

“We are deeply saddened by what has happened today," said Jeff Forbes, executive vice president and chief nuclear officer of Entergy. " Our greatest sympathy is with the family and friends of the employee who lost his life, and with those who sustained injuries. I also want to express my sorrow and support to all those who work at Arkansas Nuclear One. I know this is especially hard on them.”
