Petrino “resting comfortably” after crash

Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino is “resting comfortably” after a motorcycle accident southeast of Fayetteville.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino is “resting comfortably” after a motorcycle accident southeast of Fayetteville.

The accident happened off of Highway 16 in Madison County near the community of Crosses. The Arkansas State Police say Petrino was taken to a Washington County Hospital and stayed overnight.

“Coach Petrino is resting comfortably and is encouraged by the progress of his recovery,” said Athletic Director Jeff Long, who visited the coach Monday afternoon. “The Petrinos expressed their appreciation for all the thoughts and well wishes that have come in from all over the country.”

Highway 16 is a scenic area of Northwest Arkansas popular with motorcycle riders. ASP says that Petrino ran off the roadway and crashed just before 7pm on Sunday.

“It’s not like a car, you’re not surrounded by a bunch of tin. You go down or hit something, you’re going to feel the brunt force of it,” says Dan Shaack.

Shaack and his wife are avid motorcycle riders through this stretch of the Ozarks, marked by winding roads and challenging curves.

“You know it, you can feel it going around a corner, whether you’re going beyond your expectations of what you can handle,” said Shaack.

ASP says a full crash report, revealing more about what happened Sunday evening, is not expected until later in the week.
Statement from Athletic Director Jeff Long:

Late this afternoon I had an opportunity to visit with Coach Petrino and Becky at the hospital. Coach Petrino is resting comfortably and is encouraged by the progress of his recovery. I know that he is very much looking forward to returning to spring practice at the earliest opportunity. In the course of our visit, the Petrinos expressed their appreciation for all the thoughts and well wishes that have come in from all over the country. I am confident that everyone in the Razorback Nation is united in wishing Coach Petrino a speedy recovery.
