LITTLE ROCK, AR - Assistant Pine Bluff Police Chief Ivan Whitfield gets his job back. For several weeks, he has disagreed with boss, Chief Brenda Davis-Jones.

Davis-Jones fired the veteran of 29 years Friday, saying his service weapon was found at a crime scene.

But Whitfield maintains the Chief dismissed him in retaliation because he would not tell her information concerning a confidential informant.

Regardless, tonight the city council reversed the Chief’s decision.

“I am just proud to be back at the place where I worked 29 years. I will now go and talk to my attorney and talk to the chief to see what is in the best interests of the people of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County,” said Whitfield.

Mayor Carl Redus did not like the council’s decision, saying there is an appeals process in place.

“I’m sure litigation will be following this particular matter. I’m concerned from the point
of view that we have other things to be worried about. But in order to get things straight and to get a clear understanding of it, sometimes it is best to be handled through the courts,” said Redus.

Whitfield’s service weapon is now part of a criminal investigation. Results have not been released.

Dear Tired: I can honestly and proudly say that I've never voted for an admitted-Republican politician and I never will. To me it's obvious that Arkansas politicians claim affiliation with whatever party they think they need to help accomplish their career goals. I believe that Former President Clinton is a closet Republican. I'm sure that many Jefferson County so-called Democrats are really closet Republican. That's not the issue here. The issue is the widespread corruption - and it starts with nepotism.

Everybody try to get real. Several years ago a Pine Bluff cop supposedly lost a gun in a whorehouse, was fired, and was reinstated. Pine Bluff cops have a stop & frisk policy, and steal guns from law-abiding citizens to keep for themselves, sell, or provide to a wife, girlfriend, or other city official. That was in the news. The current police chief might not be the worst one Pine Bluff has ever had - has Pine Bluff ever had a good one? The Pine Bluff Police Department is a domestic terrorist organization.

I think we are losing focus on the fact that his service weapon was so easily obtained and found at a crime scene. I wonder how the story would read if it were some dopy beat cop losing his weapon and it being found at a crime scene........I doubt that his job would have been so quickly reinstated. Aren't people at that level supposed to set the example
