PINE BLUFF, AR - Hundreds of residents turned out for Debe Hollingsworth’s first town hall meeting as mayor Monday night, even giving her a standing ovation after her State of the City address.
Mayor Hollingsworth wants to use these town hall meetings to make herself more available to the public and update residents on the state of the city.
“As mayor, I am striving each day to build better communication between my office, city council, and the citizens.”
One of the topics those in attendance communicated with the mayor was crime. Hollingsworth says her goal is to reduce crime by making police more visible in the community.
“Our primary goal and focus will be reducing crime and bringing back the sense of security to our citizens," said Hollingsworth.
In addition to issues with crime, there were concerns with the future of the youth in the community and the poverty rate. Hollingsworth says it is time to take back the City of Pine Bluff, to improve the economy with community development projects and to make the city a more attractive place to live.
“Public service and safety remains and must be a key component to that new direction."
Hollingsworth promises that this will be the first of many town hall meeting, saying that she wants to keep the lines of communication open between her and her constituency.
