PINE BLUFF, AR - Pine Bluff Police say 27-year-old William Brown is in jail after taking two nurses hostage around 12:30pm Thursday.

Police say Brown is a mental patient at the Jefferson Comprehensive Care Center at 1101 Tennessee Street, and came in with what appeared to be a .38 revolver, claiming to have bombs. Police say Brown took two nurses hostage, Phyllis Martin, who was beaten badly, and Karen McPherson. Det. Lt. Denise Richardson says Brown cut McPherson's long hair off. "They've both been through a traumatic experience, but it ended well. The suspect is safe, the victims are safe, our officers are safe, and the facility is safe." Martin was taken to the Jefferson County Regional Medical Center with what police believe are non-life threatening injuries.

Sometime before 2pm, SWAT team members took Brown into police custody. Det. Lt. Richardson says police were able to handle the situation so quickly because the police department is only 2 blocks away from the care center. "Usually hostage situations can go bad very quickly, but this was one of those times when officers were able to respond quickly."

Police don't have a motive for why Brown took the nurses hostage, but detectives say he knew the care center and staff well. Police say his gun turned out to be a toy, and the materials he claimed to be bombs ended up being some sort of dough substance.

According to the Jefferson County jail's website, Brown is charged two counts each of first degree false imprisonment, second degree battery, and first degree terroristic threatening. He's also charged with trying to escape from officers.

The Jefferson Comprehensive Care Center will be back open Friday morning.

So what will be his punishment? A little more time in the hospital? Please. Justice would have been served if the SWAT sharpshooter would have taken him out.

Don't have a boat either. Gave up fishing when I gave up alcohol. I have a real nice open face I'm looking to get rid of; caught many a crappie and big bass with it down at the pond; interested? Kept it in perfect condition; sitting in my office "tool room" with nothing to do! Have some nice top water lures also, that I'm not using any longer.

Please; must we resort to name calling? I scored a 92 on the AFQT, Group 1 baby! So I'm not stupid. And yes, I have a set; a very fine set according to my 2 wives and the many women in between them! Yes, I know where you are to be found. Cold Creek; I googled it on the map. Big area, and the bike doesn't swim! Been to Conway 4 times since Dad stopped raising cattle in 2000. 2 trips for PGR missions, and 2 trips to the Harley dealer for parts. Need to go to the dealer again, but waiting for better riding weather so we can enjoy it; nice ride through the countryside, and lunch at Smokin Buns. Would like to meet you; you may not like this; but you and I are a lot alike, in so many ways, whether you like it or not. Seriously, would like to meet you; but can we do it without killing each other? LOL Peace out Butch.

I was making a comment on the thought process of the criminal and gun owners mind set. Of course I made the remark About children and ladies stupid. Where in the world in my last comment did I voice a thing about the victim. Just the perp. Any human is going to feel sorry for a victim. You must think it's fun to jump on everything someone says when their view doesn't fit your thinking. You know what I always say. I can always be found. Haven't seen you. The question is this. Got a set.

Itmarti2013, I hope your mother has a speedy and healthy recovery from this assinine attack. Your hopes of justice being served will never be reality. Arkansas does not have a set big enough to fully prosecute these germs that roam the streets. People can say what they want about me and my thoughts, but I could give a shat less. This idiot that ran into a office with play-dough and a toy gun should have been shot in his deadbeat head. These are the people we need to be concerned with, not legitimate gun owners. This, and the majority of gun related crimes, have nothing to do with gun control. It is purely a criminal control, or "mentally unfit person" control issue. The mental hospitals cut these ass clowns loose as soon as the government money runs out to take care of them, regardless of if they are "rehabilitated" or not. But our lawmakers and government leaders see it as a gun control issue. These bleeding hearts want to spare the "mentally defective" people and burdens, but the same bleeding hearts could give a shat less about the victims' rights. If you have something that is "defective", return it to the manufacturer, the same should be done with these crazy phuktards that want to run around killing people or doing them harm.
