CONWAY, AR – A suspected DWI driver hit another car while fleeing from the police in Conway Sunday night. According to the report, the suspect broke her neck and the passenger in the other car broke her hip in the accident.

Police say Nikki Rust, 41 of Greers Ferry, was driving west along Oak Street when police tried to pull her over. According to the report, Rust sped away from the police along Oak Street, not stopping for red lights. The report estimates Rust was driving 80mph hour during the chase.

Shortly after the chase started, Rust ran through a red light on Ingram, hitting a Chrysler traveling northbound, according to the report. The woman in the passenger seat of the Chrysler, 16-year-old Alexis McKnight, had to be cut out of the car. Police say she was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital with a fractured hip. The driver, Garan Davis, was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center.

Rust suffered a broken neck and was taken to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. The police report says Rust’s truck had cold beer in the back seat, several empty beer cans on the front seat, and a partially empty cold beer can on the floor.

When Rust recovers from her neck surgery, police say she will be charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, 2 counts of aggravated assault, DWI (depending on the blood results), criminal mischief, driving on a suspended for DWI, reckless driving, driving without proper registration, speeding, no liability insurance, and 3 counts of running red lights.

Police say the chase lasted for 47 seconds. The report officer says he was about to terminate the chase when Rust got into the accident.

bpink; Hope Alexus is doing well. As for tougher laws on drunk drivers; don't count on it. We have state legislators that enjoy drinking and driving, not to mention judges. In fact, I was told a local judge does not have a license due to drinking and driving, yet continues to drive to work. Don't know if that's true or not; maybe FOX can do some investigative reporting? And look at good old Herbie; running for CONgress; two in two years!

Thanks from the family of Alexus for your support everyone. We do wonder why the chase happened, since there are so many cops in Conway. Why not radio ahead to other officers so a road block can be set up? But ultimately it is Ms. Rust's fault. I like the analogy of walking around with the loaded gun. Another question we have is why do we not have tougher DD laws? Hopefully this & others will help change the laws.

I agree protector. To me, driving drunk is the same as walking around with a loaded gun and your finger on the trigger. And Keri, let me ask you this. What do you want the cops to do if they see a drunk driver, turn on the blue lights and if they dont stop, just stop pursuing? This person here obviously has a problem with booze and driving. Do us all a favor and put her dumbass out of commission for a very long time.

80 on oak and drunk to boot. I grew up on oak. Not the place to drink and drive 80. Why can't people be responsible when they drink.

Keri, I bet you'd be very angry if this woman had injured or killed your family members because the police had decided not to persue. I'm sure every DWI would pull right over if they knew the police would not give chase.

The drunk b caused the accident; the police were doing their job. I gotta ask keri; after seeing your post on the guy with child porn - if he had done something to one of your children, would you want the police to just let him drive away? Or would you want them to catch him by going after him?

There we have it, the truth. Just because the government can collect revenue in the form of licenses, permits and taxes from products they recognize as the only legal recreational mind altering product doesn't necessarily mean it's the right choice for all the people.

DWI Driver caused the accident or the POLICE caused the accident? I guess we will never know since the police decided to chase her.

This idiot needs to see the inside of a jail cell for a very long time. I really hate people who do this type of bull, and I haven't any sympathy for her. You're really going to drink until you're buzzed, drunk, or completely unable to stand... whichever the case, and drive a ton of metal and plastic around knowing that your reaction time and attention to detail is out of focus. If this lady didn't mind hurting her own self because of her selfish crap, she should not have gotten onto a road where other drivers are at. No, she had to get on the road around the public and put other peoples lives in danger. Sometimes I wonder if evolution is going backwards, instead of forwards. What another waste of oxygen.

Why our law does not allow for the charging of attempt to commit manslaughter in cases like this is beyond me. She will get a slap on the wrist. If it was my daughter at Arkansas Children's Hospital, this other woman would need a bodyguard.
