LITTLE ROCK, AR – Tonight, “Lucky 5” isn’t all that lucky.
"You look around and see some of the signs such as "lucky shamrock." those are signs you might see at a casino," Lt. Terry Hastings of the Little Rock Police Department said.
Police say the business is advertised as an internet café – but really, it’s a gambling operation.
"Prizes, odds of winning a prize,” Lt. Hastings said. “Penny to a nickel - 403,000 winners supposedly."
Here’s how police say it worked: customers buy a card, ostensibly for internet time. That’s partly true.
Police say customers do hop on the net – but only to gamble and redeem winnings for cash.
Undercover Police have been coming in and out of Lucky’s for the better part of a month. They say somehow Lucky’s caught wind of that – and closed down for about two weeks.
It’s also why police plan to pull computers out of the business, but no money or people.
"Our search and seizure warrant is for everything here,” Lt. Hastings said. “There might be some chairs, but other than that everything is gonna be gone."
In early August, Pulaski County Deputies raided the Citgo gas station on Arch street, calling it an suspected gambling operation as well.
This might not be the last we hear about this type of thing – police say they’ve got a whole lot of data to look through – and it could lead to further investigations.
"We'll see not only who may be running the operation but whose been on those computers using them, and if you've been in here gambling, you may get a call from our vice squad," Lt. Hastings said.
