Fayetteville resident John Baxter now holds the record for the largest gator ever killed in Arkansas. On September 19th, Baxter caught a 13’ 1’’ alligator, which is 2 inches larger than the previous record.

Baxter caught the 30-year-old, 680 pound behemoth with the help of his uncle, cousin, and cousin’s wife in Arkansas County on Post Bayou.

After harpooning the animal, the foursome spent the next half hour being dragged around the bayou in their 15ft boat before they managed to finish the gator off.

Baxter says he plans to make a rug out of his trophy.
