LITTLE ROCK, AR - For the first time in 15 years, the Arkansas State Fair will feature a roller coaster. As of Thursday afternoon though, the roller coaster was in about 1500 pieces on the ground.

When it's assembled, the coaster will be called "The Rip Tide," and it will feature two dips and a few spirals. But it's up to MacNeill Scott of Deggeller Attractions to build it first.

"This will be the place to be, down here at this end," said Scott as his crew started putting the coaster together.

That brings us to the question everybody always asks when it comes to carnival rides -- is it safe?

Scott thinks so, saying, "they're as safe as you can possibly get them."

But if you don't believe him, ask Bernie Leonard of Bernie's Portable Welding. He says he's not the guy who fixes problems. He's the guy who fixes things -- before they become problems.

"Ride it," said an enthusiastic Leonard. "I'm going to."

"The Rip Tide" will be fully assembled by Saturday. For safety reasons, operators will test it throughout the following week. It will actually open to the public one week from Friday.

shon I'm with you. I've never had any trouble, the location is bad but you have to play it smart no matter where you go these days..Don't look like a victim and you most likely won't become one and go in groups or something but definitely don't go alone...

People will go and have a good time. I wish the fair had moved to a new location but that won't keep me from going and ejoying some fair food. Once a year I get to be bad and eat stuff that I can't eat all year long. I know some of you have reservations about going to that side of town but I go to the fair most years and have never had any trouble. Most people on that side of town are hard working people who happen to have very low paying jobs. Of course there is a criminal element but they are in every neighborhood.

Will the lap bars on the roller coaster going to be able to fasten over the bullet proof vest I would have to where if I were going to set foot anywhere near the state fair?

Roller coaster coming to State Fair. That's nice. But I won't be. And many others also, because of where it's located.
