MALVERN, AR - The man who disappeared Monday night while swimming in Lake Catherine has been identified as James King, 19, of Malvern, according to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office.

King was a football player at Malvern High School and played for SAU during his freshman year. A makeshift memorial of flowers and candles is set up at the gate to the Malvern football field. Monday night, about 75 gathered there to remember their friend.

John Fogleman, the Malvern’s football coach, said King was an “outstanding person and a standout athlete.”

The search for King began at 6pm Monday night. According to witnesses, King and his friends were attempting to swim from one area of the lake to another. King started having problems staying afloat and went under.

Search crews with the sheriff’s office, the Lake Hamilton Fire Department, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spent three hours Monday night and another six and a half hours on Tuesday searching for King, without success. The search operation was suspended at 2pm.

I live off the lake where this poor young man drowned and Monday night I could see the LH fire department boat and so it hits pretty close to home as my family swims in that lake. My prayers are with the family during this time. I dont see why they would call off the search at 2 like someone said theres still plenty of sunlight. Please continue to search for him and give the family some closure and let them lay him down to rest. I wish I could help someway if the family needs anything please let me know. I will continue to pray for the family.

Monday afternoon left everyone in the town of Malvern with questions! We have no idea why this would happen to such a good guy! He made everybody feel important and he made everybody happy with that beautiful glowing smile he had! It's not fair to the people of Malvern to call this search off! Everybody lost somebody Monday afternoon if it was a friend, a lover, a role model, a brother or most honorable a son! Please help us to find closure with this...It isn't fair!

I knew this young man and to call this search off would be tragic .I know if it were any of us in his shoes he would not rest until he found us .I have to say I'm very dissapointed because our law enforcement are supposed to protect and serve then I believe you should honor your oath why give up and stop searching .19 years old thats still a child thats out there lost in that lake I wish i had a boat i would search until he was found there is alot of people that want closure and they deserve that.

I am a father here in Hot Springs and cannot imagine why they would call off a search so soon. My heart goes out to the family. We can do our own search. Any volunteers post and let' set time and meet. Let's roll! This family is hurting!

This kid was an awesome athlete and an all around good kid. If this same thing happened here in Little Rock or pretty much anywhere else in the world the search would still be going on, what is your hold up Garland County Sheriff, Hot Spring County Sheriff, AGFC, and whoever else was involved. Seriously.....8 hours, thats all a human is worth to you? Make sure you inform us if something like this happens to your child, or your friend, your teammate, your former opponent who you respected, or someone in your town who everyone knows so we can remind you of your 8 hour time limit you have chosen for recovery of a loved ones body.

Please don't stop searching for the wonderful young man. Give his mother and family some kind of closure.
