SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — Searcy police say a woman riding in a motorized wheelchair on a city street was fatally struck by an SUV.

Police say 45-year-old Rebecca Hefner of Searcy was on West Lincoln on Thursday morning when she was struck from behind by an SUV driven by 30-year-old Vaniesha Evans, also of Searcy.

The Daily Citizen reports the impact threw Hefner from her wheelchair. Hefner was pronounced dead at a hospital.

No charges were filed, though police are still investigating the accident.

Self justification? Not me Butch; I enjoy helping others, and it's something our Lord and Savior asks of us. When I go to the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics, and I have tears running down my cheeks, that's not self justification. When I'm at a PGR funeral for a fellow veteran, and tears run down my cheeks, that's not self justification. Nope, not my style Butch. I actually like helping people; for their sake, not mine. Granted, I may be storing up treasures in Heaven, who knows? And if I am, so be it. Make my mansion one with a garage with a Harley in it please. And if so, maybe we can ride together in Glory someday! Peace be with you Butch.

I fully understand what you are saying Butch. I can also say this; if I were a neighbor of yours, and you needed help in any way, shape, or form; that was in my physical ability to help, I would be the first one at your door! Not to toot my own horn; but I give a couple of people here in Jax rides to the VA when needed. Yes, if they get travel pay, they give me gas money ( I too live on disability, and scratch to get by every month ); but if they don't have the money, I gladly give them a ride for free. It's what we are supposed to do, isn't it? As far as the dirty looks; ignore 'em, I do.

I really feel sorry for the family. But a motorized wheel chair should not be aloud on a city street.I do not care what the law says, they are not like a scooter. If there is no sidewalk,no travel.Arkansas needs to get with the times. The city streets are no place for horse and buggies or motorized wheel chairs. No wonder Arkansas is so far behind the times

Some of us have grown tired of all the hateful looks from people including family if we need a little help. You make us feel like we are nothing but a burden. Me I still drive. Have two real nice auto's. I fish daily. My family is not responsible for my daily needs. That is not what they are for. I also will not back up or take anything from anyone. You can't always get to the places with the groups help when you need to be there. Do you really believe any of these things you bring up is anything other than self justification. I used to hate to go to the store in my Z28 and park in the handicapped spaces. People would mouth off, call police, key my car and other things. I don't have to drive, act, or be any other thing that I want to be. I don't live to suit others. What I will do if needed is hand a head busting in the parking lot. Done it more that one time. Never get arrested. When the police come they always see the humor in you got it kicked by a cripple. Love all of you. I just don't love all you say.

The regulars on here know my feelings on speeding. If this was the case, manslaughter for the driver. Still, my personal experience with these things has been stated. I almost run over a woman just the other day as she was drifting towards me as I was driving by Whit Davis. Again, my sympathy to the family. Butch; there are groups out there that will take you to the store; my mom used them before she passed away. She lived 400 miles from me; if she lived here, I would have taken her to the store when she needed to go! That's what family is for, isn't it?

she was a mother of 2 children. Driving a wheelchair is the same as a scooter by Arkansas law. Speeding was part of the cause of this wreck and careless driving. Sidewalks are not on all streets. She will be truly missed by her family and my daughter will miss her mom most of all

Wheelchair is kind of another way of saying legs. That would have made this woman a pedestrian. I don't know were some of you got your drivers license. But the manual I read for Arkansas says pedestrian's always have the right of way. (PEDEASTIAN'S ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY) Drivers... get off the dang cell phone or what ever els is distracting your driving and pay attention to what's going on around you. Not a hard thing to do. 99.999% of accidents can be avoided if you just do that one simple little thing. (PAY ATTENTION)!!! Condolences to the family. Prayers for all involved. Stories like this really get under my skin and people try to make it sound like it's the lady in the wheelchair's fault. It wasn't like she was out in the middle of the night.

I often wonder how many of you know the meaning of compassion. What if it was the only way to get where she need to go. The days of house calls by doctors are gone. Ever try to get WalMart, Kroger, Or price cutters to deliver you some food. There are not sidewalks on every street in Searcy. What do you think a handicapped is to do. Take our own life so you don't to put up with us. Some comments on this site make me ashamed i am white. Some make me ashamed I am human.
