Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady announced today that his office would auction 25 acres of property near Paron on November 18, 2009 at noon in the Saline County Courthouse located at 200 North Main in Benton, Arkansas. The property was seized after two successful jury convictions of Kenneth Slade for manufacturing marijuana, and a successful asset forfeiture lawsuit.
“This property is 25 undeveloped, timber-covered acres. It is the first such auction in Saline County that I am aware of. Though we regularly auction seized vehicles and other property each year, I cannot recall a drug forfeiture where this much acreage was involved” said Casady.
Slade’s first trial on January 14th of this year resulted in a jury sentencing him to eight years in prison and a $25,000 fine for growing marijuana on his property in 2007. Slade was tried again on June 2, 2009 on a subsequent arrest in 2008 for manufacturing marijuana and was sentenced by a second jury to sixteen years and a $50,000 fine. Those sentences will run consecutively for a total of twenty-four years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
The property will be sold and Quit Claim Deed issued with Owner’s Title Policy on the day of sale. Court Order transferring Title to the Prosecuting Attorney for the 22nd Judicial District of Arkansas, Title Search, Appraisal and Aerial View Map have been completed and are available for review by appointment, and on the day of the auction.
