Passionate parents packed into the small White Hall School District Administration Building Tuesday night to stand for hours and speak for a few minutes in an attempt to convince board members to look at options other than closing Redfield Middle School to save next years budget.
The board is considering closing the school to help offset costs as student enrollment drops and demands on the district grow.
Tuesday, more than 200 parents signed a petition asking the board to find another way to save next years budget that doesn't involve closing the school.
In the past few years, the school board has cut more than 20 positions as employees retire but the superintendent says if they don't make a major change now, the district will soon be subject to a state takeover.
The board plans to make a decision on Redfield Middle School within the next two months.
