CABOT, AR – A fire in Lonoke County that burned down a house, outbuildings, and several vehicles was caused by fireworks, according to the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office says that three adults were riding 4-wheelers in a field shooting off fireworks at 1667 West Mountain Springs Road in Cabot. The fireworks caught the grass on fire which subsequently burned down the house.
Arrested are Katlynn Mayfield, 23, Samantha Mayfield, 21, and Matthew Mayfield. Each is charged with felony criminal mischief. The sheriff’s office says the three are related and live on Mountain Springs Road, but the home that burned down was a neighbor’s.
Five fire departments responded to the fire. An elderly woman was able to escape from the home without harm.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind everyone that shooting fireworks without a permit is prohibited and offenders will be arrested.
