NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – A shooting suspect was taken to the hospital after leading deputies and police on a high speed chase through North Little Rock.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office says Tony Kiehl, 39, was shot in the upper chest and arm Thursday afternoon at 2109 Batesville Pike Road. The sheriff’s office responded to the shooting around 4:30pm. They say the suspect, 22-year-old Gabriel Jaquez had left the scene with a shotgun in a stolen red Honda Civic.
Deputies and troopers with the Arkansas State Police chased the Civic, at times reaching 60mph, through North Little Rock and into the county on Highway 70. Using a pit maneuver, troopers were able to spin the Civic through a chain link fence into a parking lot, where it stopped after hitting a parked car.
Juaquez was taken into custody and a shotgun recovered from his car, according to the sheriff’s office. He was taken into custody and transported to Springhill Baptist.
Kiehl was taken to UAMS. His condition and Juaquez’ were not immediately known.
Kiehl and Juaquez knew each other, according to investigators, but a motive for the shooting is not known.
The sheriff’s office says the charges for Jaquez are pending the completion of the investigation.
