LITTLE ROCK, AR – A man was shot and killed at the Pop-A-Top Tavern in Garland County after getting into an argument, according to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office.
After the argument, according to witness statements given to the sheriff’s office, 58-year-old Alan Ray Edwards left the establishment, returned a short time later with a gun, and shot 46-year-old James Toby Fowlks. Fowlks died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says Edwards is charged with first degree murder and criminal attempt at first degree murder.
After the shooting, Edwards was subdued by others in the bar and was injured in the process. Edwards was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The sheriff’s office says deputies are guarding Edwards at the hospital.
Pop-A-Top Tavern is located on the 3700 block of Park Avenue. The shooting happened around 3:31pm on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing.
