LITTLE ROCK, AR - Within the first heat of the night, a crash. That's the risk drivers take in the short track nationals.

"The feel of just going as fast as you can," said Cody Gardner, a driver from Benton. "You don't get to do that anywhere else. You can't do that on the highway you can't do that anywhere else."

Gardner may be new to racing but the Benton native knows what it takes to keep up with the veterans.

"There's half the guys put here that have been racing as long as i've been alive and it's a little bit intimidating but it's something you've got to put in the back of your head when your trying to do your job."

Gardner is one of more than 100 drivers racing, and risking a wreck, for the $15,000 dollar grand prize this weekend.

"It hurts your pocketbook more than it does you!" said Gardner.
