State Officials React to HP Layoffs in Conway

Governor Beebe, Congressman Tim Griffin react to news of layoffs.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- As word about Hewlett-Packard's plans to lay off nearly 500 workers in Conway got around, officials from the Natural State reacted to the news.

The following statement appeared on Governor Mike Beebe's Twitter account Monday afternoon:

"HP informed Governor Beebe of the layoffs this morning. Arkansas will help displaced workers, HP will remain a sizable presence in Conway. Conway has been a destination for tech jobs in recent years. Today's HP layoffs are a tough hit, but we'll keep working to bring more jobs."

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement in response to the news:

"My heart goes out to all of those affected by Hewlett Packard's announcement. This is terrible and heartbreaking news for the workers, their families and all of Arkansas, and I will work with state and local leaders to help those impacted. HP's decision to restructure its business does not change the fact that Conway and Arkansas remain great places for high-tech companies to call home, but it highlights why strengthening the economy and encouraging job growth remain my top priorities."
