Little Rock Housing Authority will use $6 million in stimulus money to provide affordable housing in six neighborhoods. The projects go beyond providing people with just a place to live, they will provide people with jobs as well.
The projects will consist of renovating three existing buildings like Cumberland Towers, Paris Towers and Sunset Terrace.
"[We] could use a lot of the changes that are going to be happening out there…such as a laundry facility and better playground equipment for the children,” explains
LRHA client Stacie Brown
Plans also include building 20 units for senior citizens on Gilliam Park Road, as well as general housing in the Central High and Stephens neighborhoods.
"We've been working with these neighborhoods and I’ve just seen a glow in people's eyes that an investment is coming to their neighborhood," says Shelly Ehenger with the LRHA.
All of the new housing units will be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Building should kick off in six months.
