Strip club has 1 week left

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – A strip club owner has one week to shut down the stripper portion of his club. It is an agreement the owner of Gentleman’s Club 70 made with the city because it is located too close to a school and a church.

The club, located on Highway 70 in North Little Rock’s Meadow Park neighborhood, has just 7 days left to operate as a strip club. Owner Craig Snyder told Fox 16 that he is done with the 18-year-long legal battle he’s fought with the city and plans on keeping his business open strictly as a bar starting in August.

"It's all stupid. It's absolutely ridiculous to spend that much money on something like this, so it was more of an agreement. There's no sense of carrying this on any farther," says Snyder.

Snyder sees his establishment as a place men in the neighborhood can go to vent after work. “It has nothing to do with nudity, sexuality, perversion, nothing. This is a place for people to come and talk.

“If you look at 90% of the customers that come in here, they couldn’t get a date if their life depended on it. Or, they don’t want to get a date, they just want to play around,” says Snyder.

The reason the strip club is violating North Little Rock city code is because it is too close to the Meadow Park Elementary School and the Bethany Baptist Church.

"I think the idea of the council was it would be better for them to be located not so close to neighborhoods, not so close to neighborhood activities," says Maurice Taylor, the North Little Rock alderman.

Starting August first, Snyder will lose the girls in the pasties and run a regular bar. "We'll operate without the girls. We'll find something else to do. I have the liquor license. This area still is entertainment starved. There's got to be something to do that we can draw them in, so, if it doesn't work, then I pack up and I go. No problem."

Opinions in the neighborhood are split on the club 50-50. One person who was willing to be interviewed on camera, Hakeem Laqman, supports the club. “A majority of the people here don’t go to it because they’re old. So, it’s messed up that they’re trying to close it down.”
